I was first introduced to yoga about seven years ago via a
local Recreation Center class. I began a daily, consistent practice
about two years ago, after finally realizing that, while I was getting
plenty of exercise walking 5 miles a day, I felt very limited in my
range of motion. I felt I desperately needed to release frozen tight
muscles. I took a class with Haleema Sood and she introduced me to
John Childers. Now having completed John's Teacher Training Program, I
realize I have benefited from so much more than just the physical
practice. I have evolved into a more aware, grounded, meditative and
accepting being, as well as cultivating a new appreciation for all
aspects of humanity. While my personal practice has many facets
(rigorous, relaxed and meditative) I especially enjoy leading others
to the realization that they have the power to affect change in their
own bodies, minds and lives.
One
opportunity I've had through Full Spectrum Yoga was to volunteer teach
at New Directions for Women; a drug and alcohol-recovery center. It
has blessed me with working with women enrolled there and the
particular issues with which they have to deal in confronting their
recovery. I have expanded my empathy while strengthening my resolve to
help them deal with their limits. It is the best feedback in the world
to have someone say to me after class. "I feel so much better
now!"
